Mary Affeldt
Chief Executive Officer
As mPower’s CEO, Mary Affeldt guides our organizational culture and the delivery of services to our client base. She leverages over 30 years of experience in large complex, multidisciplinary biomedical science organizations to integrate mission priorities into all programs at mPower. She brings a broad range of expertise in leading people and organizational change while creating results and improvements in business operations. Her background prior to retirement from Senior Executive Service (SES) includes more than 20 years overseeing the intramural research program at the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), including serving as NIDA’s Associate Director for Management, and later serving as the Associate Director for Management for the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI). As CEO, Mary continues to provide executive advisory services, program integration, organizational alignment, staffing, communications, change management, team building, mentoring and coaching for a number of NIH Institutes as well as several FDA Centers. Mary received her MS in Business Administration and Management from University of Maryland, Global Campus and her BS in Business Administration from Washington Adventist University.

Christine (Chris) Major
Senior Advisor
Christine M. Major has over 30 years of experience in the Human Resource field at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Most recently, until July 2018 when Chris retired from Senior Executive Service (SES), she was the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Human Resources and Chief Human Capital Officer, HHS, where she oversaw all human capital activities for the agency of approximately 90,000 employees. Chris also previously served as NIH’s Director of the Office of Human Resources (OHR) for 13 years, overseeing all HR functions for an 18,000-employee biomedical research organization and a team of 325 HR professionals as well as leading the consolidation of HR operations from 27 Institute-based offices to a single shared service. In addition to her HHS career, Ms. Major has been an active member of the International Public Management Association for Human Resources (IPMA-HR) for over 15 years, including serving as IPMA-HR President in 2019. In her current role, Chris provides executive consulting services to mPower as well as multiple NIH Institutes and Federal agencies, serving as a trusted advisor to both mPower and our clients. Chris received her BS in Human Resources from the University of Maryland.
